Natalie Betoshana, Coronation Coordinator 2019
August Report
Position Assessment:
For the month of August, I wasn't needed at Pow Wow to work a table; however, I was involved with Link Crew duties such as Freshmen Orientation. Halfway through August, I met with Ms. Green and took pictures of all past POs that would pertain to me this year including the Black Light Rally, Homecoming and its coronation, Winter Fest and its coronation and senior night expenses. Monday August 19 my Black Light Rally committee was established and we communicated via text message. The PO to buy black lights, colored masking tape and glowing tape for decoration through Amazon was also turned in August 19. The vision of this rally was to bring the viral Twitter sensation to Ripon High, and I my committee did a fantastic job of assisting me where needed. I met with Mr. Ramirez, Mr. Rangel, Mrs. Valdez, Mr. Felver, Ms. Green, Mr. Wright, Mrs. Routhier and Morty quite often during the process. It's one thing to have ideas, but it is another thing trying to get everything approved. The agenda and music quickly came along, and I'm so thankful that we didn't have any technological mishaps during the rally. I also worked the Yoga club table the week of Club Rush. We pre-sold two tank tops, and some students stopped by my table to pick up an informational paper. Next year, we should definitely make a sign for the Yoga table because there are so many tables with class t-shirt sales, pride tribe shirt sales and club sign-ups in general, it was difficult to spot the Yoga club. The procedure form for the Black Light Rally will be turned in tomorrow, and the process of Homecoming coronation has already started for me. I met with Mrs. Ochoa, priced sashes and tiaras, and I'm working to make a committee in the near future.
Standing Committee:
I'm a member of the Sports Relations committee. This year we didn't make posters for every senior involved in a fall sport because my job position entails me to recognize these athletes through their Senior Nights. I'm the student leader of the Senior Nights committee. I've talked with Mr. Wright and Mr. Musseman; however, I still need to meet with the other coaches.
Special Committee:
I'm currently not a part of any special committees; however, I will be assisting the Talent Show committee.
Concerns:
The same people sit at the same tables in the library basically everyday, so I'm trying my best to mingle my way through to all the tables. When Morty tells the class to move seats, not everyone moves to a different table. I think it's important to fill those gaps with people you aren't as close with.
Positive Comment:
A special shout-out to Makenzie Loechler!! I appreciate her willingness to go crazy and pretend play the keyboard for the Black Light Rally! She executed the role just how I imagined!! Love her!
Change:
We could do a better job at decorating for all sports events. We've just had a lack of posters for football, volleyball, cross country, water polo, and girl's golf.
My Impact:
We shall do better the next time, every time! I expressed this core principle through the Black Light Rally from last year to this year. Last year the class almost decided to get rid of the Black Light Rally for this year, but I was definitely able to improve the agenda and music. The entertainment was the student body not just the lights this year!

September and October Report
Position Assessment:
During the month of September I focused on planning for Homecoming Coronation with Mrs. Ochoa and my committee. I worked with Mrs. Ochoa to order the sashes, robes, crowns and medallions from Anderson’s and the flowers from Main Street Floral. On October third our Homecoming Coronation Pep Rally occured where my committee set up the red carpets lined with Christmas lights, tied balloons to the railings in each class section, and hung posters on the side mats. I set up the table with all the princess tiaras, the black Homecoming Royalty sashes, the medallions, the Grand Marshal sash and the flowers. The only mishap I had with Coronation overall was the Grand Marshal sash was spelled with two “L’s”, and luckily my mom was able to unstitch the extra “L”. Also, the robe qualities weren’t at all what I was expecting. When the past Homecoming King and Queen went to robe the current winners, the pins to hold the robes together came apart. Also, I didn’t communicate with Mrs. Ochoa thoroughly enough because on Thursday at 12 I was asking LJ if he could get us the risers for coronation. Niki make sure next year, you have the risers taken care of ahead of time. This year I stenciled the names of each candidate onto black posters with white paint and red glitter. The posters looked really clean and elegant; however, the wind blew a few of the posters down and the passengers in the convertibles had to hold the signs to the car doors. We used an abundant amount of blue tape, but the poster board was heavy. Next year they’ll be using printed posters from somewhere like Costco. Overall the Reveal Pep Rally, Coronation, and the Homecoming Parade went well. I decorated Mr. Ramirez’s cart with streamers and balloons for the King and Queen to ride in. I also purchased red spirit poms for the student section for the Homecoming football game to add some extra spirit. Currently, I’ve been sitting in meetings with ASB and the juniors to provide my insight as a past class officer and past ASB member. I’m also working on the description of my job position.
Standing Committee:
I am a part of the Sports Relations Committee and I’m head of the Senior Nights Committee. I still need to pick out a trainee for the senior nights and discuss with the class if we should continue doing this next year. If so, should we add anything or continue with the red carnation wraps with a label for each senior.
Special Committee:
I was head of the Black Light Fall Sports Rally committee, and I’m confident that my committee and I provided a positive atmosphere for the students of Ripon High to enjoy themselves. Overall, the rally went well. We had no technical difficulties; however, the blinds to block the sun being broken over the senior section was the main complaint I heard. I picked my trainees, Anthony and Katelyn, to take over this rally next year. They helped with the paperwork of the rally and helped with the process of each component that makes the rally different than the others. I was also head of the Coronation Committee for Homecoming, and my trainee is Niki. This year we went with a simpler approach to the reveal, and it made my committee feel stress-free. I took into account that every person in my committee was also playing a big role in their class Homecoming competitions. The goal was to put on a reveal that was easy to see by the audience and easy to understand by the candidates. Personally, I think we executed our goal very well. I made sure to take into account everyone who helped us significantly, so I could write a meaningful thank-you note to each of them. For the senior nights, the only active committee as of now is Fall Sports because that’s the season we are currently in. We’ve recognized girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ water polo and girls’ volleyball at their senior prom nights with a red carnation wrap for each senior. We also attached a label to each flower that thanks the senior for their time and dedication and sign it from Leadership. The only hiccup I’ve had is my committee didn’t come to the girl’s golf senior night; however, they’ve been on top of the rest. Also, I was given incorrect information of how many seniors there were for water polo, but the parent in charge didn’t seem to care. We’re also taking pictures of each senior night so it can be posted on the asbofriponhigh instagram page.
Concerns:
Some of the students in our class are not seeking help when they need it which is causing conflict within the class. If we were truly digesting all the Brene Brown Mr. Ramirez is teaching us, I don’t think we would be having such an issue. Building trust with your team is crucial because there are multiple jobs to be completed in every event.
Positive Comment:
I would like to shout out Anthony! Anthony is always the first to step in and ask if I need help with anything. He was so open to listening to all I had to say about the planning of the Black Light rally, and he was always at a Coronation meeting ready to dive in. I really appreciate Anthony’s strong work ethic, and I’m proud of how much he has grown as a leader. He really stepped it up during Homecoming this year and even more so when he had to take charge of Powderpuff. Even though he was busy with Powderpuff, that night he still stayed committed to our Coronation Committee and handed out the maps to each girl candidate. Way to go Anthony!!
Change:
As a class, we could do better at looking at past procedure forms and understand how past leadership students ran the same events. I think more people should be looking at past work before starting on their own, especially if they are in a new position and don’t know how to execute an event.
My Impact:
“We’re not just friends, we’re family” These last two months and currently, I’m working on my character and checking in with my peers in leadership. I know these past two months have been stressful on many people, so I’m trying to just be a helping hand and a listener for anyone who needs me.

November and December Report
Position Assessment: During the month of November, I prepped for Winter fest Coronation along with the Holiday Door challenge. I also provided insight for our CASL group and wrote about the Core Principle of being mindful. I’m working with Morty to finish the Google form to vote for Winterfest candidates. I am working to finish my job description for this position and evaluate the leadership application for next year. All the fall senior sports were recognized at their senior nights by leadership, and my committee did a great job showing up. For the month of December, I also worked on the slide show for the Trans Valley School presentation. I worked on the Legacy Leaders slide with Kassidy, The Homecoming slide with Katelyn, The Winterfest slide with Ana, and the Election slide with Carmen. The day of, I went through the whole slideshow and made sure the theme of the presentation was consistent along with the fonts and pictures. Everything else I was involved in is listed in the following committees.
Standing Committee: I am a part of the Sports Relations Committee and I’m head of the Senior Nights Committee. I still need to pick out a trainee for the senior nights and discuss with the class if we should continue doing this next year. If so, should we add anything or continue with the red carnation wraps with a label for each senior. We are beginning to transition into the winter sports, and I already have my committee.
Special Committee: For the month of November, I worked with Kassidy to make the Most Likely to win an Oscar poster and cut 40 red circles for the Yearbook rally. For the month of December, I was in the Holiday Door Challenge committee where we met at my house to cut the wrapping paper and organize each door. Then on Wednesday morning my group decorated each door in the time given. My concern for the materials this year was the wrapping paper and ribbon was too heavy to be held with blue tape. I am also in the Valentine Love for RHS Committee, and I am paired with Anthony. We have each cut 25 hearts so our 50 hearts are done. We are just waiting on the names we will be assigned from Gracie. I am also in the special committee named Black Out specifically for Winterfest. I have ordered 175 shirts with a Purchase Order, and I already received a confirmation. I am also the head of the Winter fest Coronation committee, I have Purchase Orders for the basketballs and flowers for the rally. I’ve been communicating with Ana. We are still deciding how we are writing on the basketballs.
Concerns: Some of the students in our class are not being productive during the class period, or they are waiting until the last minute to finish tasks that were given to them months in advance. It gets annoying.
Positive Comment: I would like to shout out Ana! She did such a great job taking charge of the Holiday tree for the night rally when her team didn’t pull through. She has always puts effort into her work and communicating effectively and efficiently with her peers.
Change: As a class, we could do better at looking at past procedure forms and understand how past leadership students ran the same events. I think more people should be looking at past work before starting on their own, especially if they are in a new position and don’t know how to execute an event. Especially going into Winterfest soon, class officers who have never been in a class officer position before should be reviewing past procedure forms.

January Report
Position Assessment: During the month of January, I completed the last finishing touches on the Winterfest Coronation. The silver paint sharpies and basketballs arrived which we purchased from Amazon. The night of Coronation the Senior Officers rolled out the red carpet during halftime. The candidates did a great job at following directions, and Ana and I announced the winners of Winterfest crowning them the King and Queen of Spirit. Also during January, I created a black out spirit day to bring awareness to the Escalon Basketball game and Winterfest spirit. I ordered the black out shirts in advance and they were shipped to Ripon High on December 18th. We ended up with 14 shirts left out of the 175 after selling them during lunch and before the game. I ordered more smaller sizes this year; however, there was still a high demand for smaller sizes when we sold out. Our left over inventory included 2 large, 8 XL and 4 2XL. During January the athletic commissioners and I planned what reward to present the winter sport seniors. All the winter senior sports were recognized at a pizza party in Cutino’s classroom during lunch. Each senior winter sport athlete was given a slip on Friday February 7th inviting them to come to Cutino’s classroom February 12th. Also, Evan and I are prepared to meet with Ripon El’s 8th graders February 19th. We communicated with Morty that we need 56 copies of leadership applications. I’ve been in contact with Mrs. Jessica Rangel to select a meeting time that works with all of us.
Standing Committee: I am a part of the Sports Relations Committee and I’m head of the Senior Nights Committee. At this time my trainee for the senior nights has been selected. Malery and Anthony will be the future athletic commissioners. They helped me prepare the Winter Sport senior pizza lunch. We need to discuss what reward we will provide for the Spring season and how to make these senior nights and recognition better for next year.
Special Committee: For the month of January I worked with Anthony to complete our hearts for the Valentine Love for RHS Committee. We completed the task quite efficiently. My concerns include students writing foul language on the hearts and that not all the hearts were completed. Some students never found their heart. I was also in the special committee named Black Out specifically for Winterfest. I ordered 175 shirts with a Purchase Order. I was also the head of the Winterfest Coronation committee. Ana did a great job communicating with all parties involved.
Concerns: Since elections and results have already taken place my concern is that the students who decided to not come back may slack off even more.
Positive Comment: I would like to shout out Gabby Delgado! She’s always polite and gets involved in our Brene Brown discusiones. She is not afraid to ask questions which I applaud so she does things right the first time.
Change: As a class, we could do better at bonding. The year is almost over and our class still is having clicks; which is bound to happen. I just think we should put more effort into our relationships.
My Impact: “We’re not just friends, we’re family” This core principle has reflected my actions this past month. My most recent legacy left behind is revamping the leadership application and interview process. I think it’s important to make sure the people we are letting into the program will be beneficial to our program.
